Steve Noonan: Press

Everything on Steve Noonan’s "Bringin' It Back Home" is good.  An intimate seasoned voice, supported by flawless guitar playing, on true and honest songs…

Xroads #13 (Nov 5, 2008)

A singer-songwriter of the old school, who, with his skillfully played acoustic guitar, tells stories like Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, or Bob Dylan.  If Steve Noonan would have sung like he does on "Bringin' It Back Home" four decades ago, on any well known stage, his songs would have been sung right after "Blowin' in the Wind" or "Eve of Destruction" at campfires all round the world.

When I listen to this singer-songwriter's first album in 40 years, I'm really thrilled. Naked, intimate, close, acoustic, beautiful are some of the words popping up in my head. The feeling of the album is sort of close to Neil Diamond's latest two albums, and that, my friends, is as good as anything!

Steve Noonan was one of those who arrived in the U.S. singer-songwriter wave in the late 60's, along with more well-known names as Tim Buckley and Jackson Browne. Forty years after his debut album, he is back, with a fantastic group of acoustic songs. The material is impressive, with a voice that conveys a slight melancholy, while having a comfortable ease with which the narrative stories are interspersed with social observations. Best track: "Battle Mountain".
